How to Know Requested Pressure for Hydraulic Press Brake

How to choose Most Suitable Hydraulic Press Brake?
Before buying a hydraulic press brake, some bosses are not very familiar with the machine, and they may do not know how much pressure they need. Let me introduce a bending pressure calculation formula, so that we can calculate the required bending pressure based on the material, thickness, length, and corresponding lower die slot data. In this case, we will be able to choose most suitable press brake.

Bending pressure calculation formula: P=650 * S * S * L/V

P=bending pressure (unit: kN)

S=plate thickness (unit: mm)

L=length of sheet metal (unit: m)

V=Lower mold slot (unit: mm, usually 8-10 times the thickness of the plate)

The above figure shows the bending force table of the sheet metal. Here “t” represents the thickness of the sheet metal, and “v” represents the width of the lower die slot. When bending, we need to select the corresponding slot according to the thickness of the sheet metal, so that the folded work pieces will be more accuracy.

Please refer to the following standards for the selection of the lower mold slot:

v=6t,0.5mm ≤ t ≤ 2.6mm    
v=8t,3.0mm ≤ t ≤ 8.0mm
v=10t,9.0mm ≤ t ≤ 10.0mm
V=12t, t ≥ 12mm

For better understanding, let me give you an example. If your material is 6mm mild steel, and your material maximum length is 3.2m, then you can calculate as following:
P=650 * S * S * L/V
 =650 * 6 * 6 * 3.2/8 * 6
 = 1560 KN (156T)

Then you can choose DURAMA model hydraulic press brake DRPK-16032 or DRPE-16032.
How to Know Requested Pressure for Hydraulic Press Brake

Note:
1) The above calculation formula is based on material mild steel during making 90° bending.
2)When bending stainless steel, the pressure can be calculated according to the following standards: 304 stainless steel=carbon steel * 1.6 times, 201 stainless steel=carbon steel * 2 times.
3) If you need to make sharp degree bending, such as 60°, 45°, 30°, or to do multi-step bending or make one-time molding, etc., the requested pressure will be much higher, and the calculation is more comprehensive. Please you can just tell us your needs or send us your products drawings or photos, we will check for you.

Each model is with different capacity  to match with your job requirement. It is important to choose suitable press brake for your needs. If you buy bigger machine than you actual needs, it need more money and waste energy. Because bigger model machines usually are more expensive, and they also need to use more hydraulic oil, electric power etc.. If you bought smaller machine, it may be not able to do your job well.
